Cassandra Basile | Director
Cassandra Basile graduated from California State University, Northridge with her BA in 2010 before moving to New York to attend Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Cassandra transitioned her career to helping students across the world reach their educational goals. Cassandra held positions at Kaplan Test Prep, College Board International, and Pratt Institute before becoming director at One River School Woodbury where she feels at home bringing fun, compelling contemporary art education to Long Island.
Bill Donovan | Director of Education
Bill Donovan graduated from University of Massachusetts with his undergraduate degree before attending the University of Iowa and Stony Brook University where he received two master’s degrees in Painting and Art History. Bill is a celebrated writer and exhibiting artist. For 12 years, Bill taught at the college-level before coming to One River School as Director of Education where he loves connecting with people on their artistic journey.
Rhea Nayyar | Student Services Coordinator
Rhea Nayyar graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA from the School of Art. She joined One River School's Woodbury team as the Studio Coordinator in the summer of 2020. While her art practice is mainly gouache painting, she has developed an interest in small-scale sculpture. Rhea loves working with One River School because she is dedicated to helping her students grow as artists and free thinkers.
Kathleen | Instructor
Kathleen O’Brien is an accomplished 2D animator, illustrator, draughtsman, and designer. Kathleen graduated from SUNY Stony Brook with a BA in Studio Art and San Jose State University with a BFA in Animation/Illustration. Kathleen enjoys animating on independent and group projects in their spare time and they like working at One River School because they can share their knowledge with the next generation of artists.
James Avila | Instructor
James Avila graduated from Long Island University C.W. Post with a BFA in Fine Art and a MS in Art Education and for 6 years after graduating, James taught art in the public school system. After this, James began a freelance career illustrating and writing comic books which had always been dream of his. James has been working at One River Woodbury since it opened and loves being able to work at a school where the students and staff are as creative as they are here.
Sarah Couture | Instructor
Sarah Couture is pursuing a Creative Arts Therapy masters degree at Hofstra University after graduating from Purchase College with degrees in Painting, Drawing, and Psychology. Sarah is an artist whose work focuses on themes such as memory, nostalgia, and interpersonal relationships. Sarah has been teaching art to children for several years and enjoys teaching at One River because she feels fulfilled in her ability to help children learn about art making.
Steve Walker | Instructor
Steve Walker is a published comic artist and illustrator with a BFA from The School of Visual Arts whose work can be seen in popular graphic novels, comics, and role playing games. Steve is also a teacher, instructing classes in drawing, comics, and sequential art at a variety of institutions including the Art Students League of New York, The New York Academy of Art, The Dreamyard Project, HMI.org, and One River School.
