ARTIST STATEMENT
Biophilia is an innate affinity for life or living systems. A unique vocabulary of automatic marks builds the system in each painting in this exhibition, with a focus on an exploration of color harmonies that form so easily from the combination of natural colors: madder, indigo, buckthorn, weld, cochineal, black walnut, pokeberry, spirulina, marigold, logwood, sumac, chestnut. Each painting is a wish to reach a point of connection, balance, and stability in the human relationship to nature, which has been so disrupted by capitalism and consumption. We can grow, use, and dispose of what we need in a way that supports rather than depletes life.
